As a racialized second-generation immigrant of Indo-Guyanese descent, my lived experiences have shaped my commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and creating accessible, supportive spaces for others navigating similar journeys. Second-generation racialized immigrants, particularly youth, need opportunities to explore their identities, share their stories, and connect with others who understand the complexities of culture, belonging, and intergenerational experiences.

This passion led me to the creation of Second Gen. Through my own experiences, I recognized a lack of spaces dedicated to the voices and experiences of second-generation racialized immigrants. Many of us navigate complex questions of identity and community, yet opportunities for connection and dialogue remain limited. Through Second Gen, I aim to help bridge this gap by creating programs, projects, and conversations that celebrate our identities, amplify our stories, and foster a sense of belonging.

Creative writing has always been a passion and a powerful form of self-expression for me. I strive to incorporate storytelling into community-building work, recognizing its ability to foster connection, healing, and understanding. This commitment recently led to the publication of this is us: A collection of poetry from racialized second-generation immigrant youth, which highlights the voices and lived experiences of young people from across Ontario. I look forward to continuing this work through future publications and creative initiatives that empower individuals to share their stories and build community through storytelling.

As a recent Social Work graduate with a passion for mental health, racial injustice, and community engagement, I am excited to continue creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and connected.
